I thought I would use this blog to describe the day-to-day that I deal with behind the wheel. What I see, what I hear and what happens when I'm out on the road. I'll also try to post pics when possible. Enjoy!!

Good morning Waco! I got here last night about 11:30 fighting a south wind all the way. Driving in the wind is magnified about 10x's in a truck and especially this truck. Being that it's so tall, it's top heavy anyway, then you pull a 53' trailer and I might as well be a sailing ship! Anyway, I made it here with about 45 minutes to spare. See, truckers are given 14 hour days to work and of those 14, you can only drive 11. The other 3 are for loading/unloading etc.., then we have to take a 10 hour break. We also have the 70/6 rule which is 70 hours in 6 days. If you drive more than 70 hours in 6 days, you have to take off 34 hours as a restart. Basically it sets everything back to zero. However, there are loop-holes with everything and you have to know what they are or you'll never get home or make much money. I do an average speed logbook which means that, no matter how far I drive, what obstacles I encounter (weather, traffic etc..), or what time of day it is, I will average my speed (say 65mph) with my odometer and do my logbook accordingly at the END of the day. So I'm legal during the day, but at the end of the day when I reach my destination, I will redo my log showing an average speed with no stops or interruptions. Does it take away from sleep? Sometimes it does, but waiting to get unloaded or loaded is naptime!! I'll see ya in Austin!!
